Our favorite things to do in Austin!
Shopping on South Congress
Spend some time strolling up and down Austin's South Congress Street for a leisurely day of shopping and dining. Forgot a cowboy hat or bolo tie? Allen's Boots and others along this iconic strip have you covered.
Barton Springs Pool
If the weather is nice, take a dip in Barton Springs Pool, a natural spring that stays a temperate 68 degrees year round. If you're in the mood to explore, check out the adjacent Green Belt for a pleasant and easy hike.
Coffee Shop at the Carpenter Hotel
Stop into the Carpenter Hotel for coffee in a beautiful setting. The attached restaurant is very good, or walk over to P Terry's afterwards for an Austin classic.
Hill Country Wine Tastings
If you're in the mood to explore the area, Hill Country offers great wineries, beergardens, and scenic small towns such as Fredericksburg and Johnson City. Grape Creek Vineyards is fantastic, just note that reservations are a good idea at most vineyards and typically required for parties of six or more.
Austin BBQ
Brisket is king in Austin, don't ask for pulled pork! Mickelthwait is a favorite of ours, it opens at 11am and closes whenever they run out. Terry Black's on Barton Springs Road and Coopers on Congress Ave are also great and have more "normal" restaurant hours. For any fanatics that want to try Franklin's but don't want to wait in a 6+ hour line, we recommend ordering online ahead of time and picking up, you can be in and out in under 10 minutes that way.
Sunset at Mount Bonnell
If you're looking to enjoy a sunset and view, Mount Bonnell is your place. Park and ascend about 100 limestone steps to a beautiful view of the city and river.
Nightlife
In the mood for a drink? We recommend Rainey Street or East 6th. Rainey is more hectic--with lots of crowds and live music--whereas East 6th is typically a more relaxed option. Unbarlievable and Whisler's are respective highlights.
Date Night
In the mood for a casual evening and tasty food? Sip Pho on Guadalupe offers excellent Vietnamese Food. Zed's New Zealand style ice cream keeps it interesting.
